<title>Summary</title>
<p>Awaruite is not known from Awarua River or Awarua Bay, Westland, New Zealand, but was first described from alluvial sands of the Gorge River and soon thereafter, in situ in serpentinite from the same valley. The name is a misnomer.</p>
